Programme profile
The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland offers a three year BSc Physiotherapy programme to applicants with a primary degree. Applicants with school-leaving qualifications are required to complete a foundation year.
The aim of the School of Physiotherapy is to educate professionally safe, competent, reflective and analytical physiotherapists who possess a sound scientific knowledge base, an understanding of the value of research and analysis, are responsive to the needs of clients and carers and are aware of the dynamic diversity of healthcare environments in which they practice.
On completion of this programme, graduates will have sound scientific knowledge of physiotherapy practice and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake assessment of patients, plan and implement treatment programmes. In addition, they will have an understanding of the concepts, methods and techniques of enquiry underpinning healthcare research and evaluation of outcomes of physiotherapeutic intervention.
Programme content
Year 1: Medical physics; Human biology; Medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry; Medical Informatics; Chemical processes in Biological Systems; Biochemical and biophysical processes in the human body
Year 2: Anatomy; Physics; Physiology; Physiotherapy skills; Movement studies; 3-week clinical placement
Year 3: Orthopaedics; Rheumatology; Outpatients; Medical/surgical cardio respiratory and neurology; 3-week clinical placement
Year 4: integration of knowledge and understanding into clinical practice. Optional clinical placement modules include paediatrics, women's health, care of the elderly and advanced neurology In addition, a significant proportion of time is spent on the completion of a research project.

Entry Requirements
Passes in 6 recognised subjects with at least two subjects at Grade C or better in GCE A-Levels or equivalent, and at least four subjects at Grade C or better in GCE O-Levels or equivalent.
A-Level subjects to include Grade B in one of Biology , Chemistry or Physics. Other subjects to include Maths, English and another language.
